You've seen this before..Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman switch bodies..this one is pretty funny.

COWBOYS AND ALIENS

Jon Favreau does a great job directing Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig, as they try to stop those pesky aliens from mining gold in Absolution, Arizona.

SARAH'S KEY

Powerful movie beginning in WWII when the French sent jews to concentration camps. One of the best I've seen this year.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2

Things wrap up nicely for the Potter series and we finally get to see the end of that pesky Voldemort.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

Chris Evans is transformed from a wimp to Captain America..great ending to this movie and a glimpse into the new Avenger movie.

QUEEN TO PLAY

A great french film about a maid who is inspired to learn to play chess. Kevin Kline does the inspiring and speaks great french.

BRIDE FLIGHT

Dutch is the language in this foreign film about 3 women who emigrate to New Zealand as war brides. Soap opera.

GUNLESS

Canadian movie about an 1880's wild west gunslinger who ends up in a friendly canadian town and falls in love. Comedy.

FIRST DOG

The President's (eric Roberts) dog runs away after an attempt on his life, and an orphan sets out on a cross-country journey to return him. Kind of B-Movie-ish, but I'm a sucker for this kind of flick.

HORRIBLE BOSSES

3 guys set out to kill their bosses-and hilarity ensues. Funny.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

The third installment has plenty of action-some new faces, and of course Shia LeBeouf and a new girlfriend.

LARRY CROWNE

Good to see Tom Hanks back with Julia Roberts..fun story.

BAD TEACHER

Cameron Diaz is a foul-mouthed teacher in search of breast implants and a rich guy. Justin Timberlake is funny as a nerd teacher.

BEGINNERS

Christopher Plummer is looking Oscar with this performance as a widow who comes out of the closet, and Ewan McGregor as his son coming to terms with it.

GREEN LANTERN

Ryan Reynolds takes the comic book role and is great, with help from Peter Sarsgaard, Blake Lively and Tim Robbins.

MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS

This is a great movie for the kids..and Jim Carrey does a fine job with the penguins.

HESHER
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a loner who lives in his van until he meets TJ and moves in. Pyrotechnics ensue. Different kind of movie. I liked it.

SUPER 8

Good collaboration between JJ Abrams and Speilberg-alien monster in railroad car gets out and terrorizes town.

POTICHE

French film takes place in 1977 and is a big take on women's lib. Funny.

TREE OF LIFE

Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain in this one, but the kids are center stage-lot of thinking goin on here.

SUBMARINE

Takes place in Wales and explores the funny relationship between school chums Oliver Tate and Jordana.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

This prequel to the franchise shows how it all started for Charles Xavier and his school for genetic mutants. Exciting Bay of Pigs action.

THE DOUBLE HOUR

This italian movie takes place in Turin and keeps you guessing with lots of twists. Good story and great performances. Won big at Venice Film Festival.

HANGOVER 2

Another great installment of this franchise, with everything taken to the next level. I say let's have another one.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

One of Woody Allen's best..starring Owen Wilson as a visitor to Paris-He wants to stay after a few midnight trips back in time, where he gets to rub elbows with Hemingway, Salvadore Dali and the like.

MEEK'S CUTOFF

Three families head west in 1847-3 covered wagons and a guide to get them to the Columbia River. They come across an indian who they hope is leading them to water. Great movie that ends too soon.


Quiet independent about a Ontario Mennonite town's sherriff on the murder trail. With Martha Plimpton and Jill Hennessey.

LEGEND OF THE FIST

Donnie Yen beats the crap out of the Japanese as they occupy Shanghai and make life miserable for everyone in post World War I.

SOMETHING BORROWED

Dramady with Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson as best friends who want the same guy. With John Krasinski.

THE BEAVER

Mel Gibson is back with a solid performance in this heavy one about depression and mental illness. Jodie Foster directed and also stars, and that pesky Beaver won't come off his arm without some drastic measures.


Heavy one from South Korea as a woman tries to raise her grandson, keep him out of jail, and learns how to write poetry.

THOR

The God of Thunder, and a great movie (I saw it in IMAX 3D). The hammer worked pretty good-so did Natalie Portman. Good action.

EVERYTHING MUST GO

It's a serious Will Ferrell as a struggling alcoholic coming to grips with his disease, and Rebecca Hall as the neighbor across the street who helps. Filmed in the Arcadia neighborhood of East Phoenix(even a shot of our building in the first scene.

A dying mother sends her twins on a search for their brother and father in the Palestinian lands-with a shocking ending.

BRIDESMAIDS

Funny movie about best friends-a wedding-and raunchy jokes from Kristin Wiig and Maya Rudolph..Funny!

HENRY'S CRIME

Keanu Reeves is his usual self in this comedy with James Caan and Vera Farmiga. He goes to rob the bank he was falsely convicted of robbing.
EXPORTING RAYMOND

Phil Rosenthal, the creator of Eveybody Loves Raymond, is called by the Russians to come over and help them make Raymond. Funny documentary.

THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER SOLD

Morgan Spurlock(Super Size Me)decides to go out and find sponsors to fund his 1.5 million dollar movie in return for product placement. Great doc.

FAST FIVE

The team of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker is back, joined by The Rock, and this time they are in Brazil to pull of one last job. Exciting.

MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY

Tyler Perry does it again, as Madea's neice Shirley gets her family together and prepares to go to heaven. The usual conflicted kids..and Madea straightens them all out. I was cryin' laughing.
WATER FOR ELEPHANTS

We go back to the Great Depression in 1931 and Robert Pattinson is joining the circus where he meets Reese Witherspoon, the wife of Christoph Waltz and all hell breaks loose. You should see what happens at the end. A clue-it involves lions tigers and bears.

WINTER IN WARTIME

With the Nazis occupying his village, things just aren't going right for 14 year old Michiel, who risks everything helping a downed british soldier.

MIRAL

Freda Pinto from Slumdog plays her, a palestinian caught up in the struggles from Israel first becoming a state through 1985. Powerful story..and true.
IN A BETTER WORLD

The Academy Award winner for best foreign film, this one follows the lives of two Danish families and how they intertwine. Great story..powerful.
ATLAS SHRUGGED

One woman tries to keep her railroad afloat in uncertain times 5 years in the future. This was from a 1957 book by Ayn Rand and I've never heard applause this loud at the end of a movie. Part 1 of a trilogy, and I'm looking forward to the other two.

THE CONSPIRATOR

Another great history lesson about what happened when the Lincoln's went to the Ford Theatre. James McAvoy is great and it's directed by Robert Redford.
ARTHUR

Great politically correct updating of the original, with Russell Brand and Helen Mirren. Arthur stands to loose the family money if he doesn't marry the right girl(Jennifer Garner). A clean shaven Nick Nolte plays her father.

KILL THE IRISHMAN

Ray Stevenson stars in this one -true story-1970's Cleveland, as he works for mobsters, then tries to rise to the top. More car bombings than I've seen in a long time.
HANNA

Saoirse Ronan is an assissin trained by her father(Eric Bana) and she's out to complete a mission across Europe. But Cate Blanchette is out to get her.

YOUR HIGHNESS

It's Pineapple Express going medieval in this comedy with Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman. Funny and vulgar.

SOUCE CODE

Jake Gyllenhaal is great as a dead army helicopter pilot and his mind is used in another person's body to catch a bomber. A good action movie.
THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED

J.K. Simmons at his best as a father who's son returns home with short term memory loss, and they finally bond with the help of the music they remember.
OF GODS AND MEN

Heavy movie about a group of monks caught up in the conflict between the army and the rebels. They decide to stay no matter what happens...and you can guess what happens.
WIN WIN

Paul Giamatti is great as a lawyer and high school wrestling coach who befriends a boy who helps the team become competitive.
NORA'S WILL

This one is from Mexico, and a good story about a woman who commits suicide after leaving instructions for her ex-husband and housekeeper on what to do after she is gone-right down to the meals to prepare.

SUCKERPUNCH

Orphaned girl tries to survive and breakout of home for mentally insane. Wierd but visually nice.

PAUL

Great comedy with the Shaun of the Dead guys and an alien voiced by Seth Rogan. With Sigourney Weaver, Jason Bateman.
LIMITLESS

Bradley Cooper takes a pill and gets to use ALL of his brain to get ahead in life. Robert DeNiro wants in.

THE LINCOLN LAWYER

Matthew McConaughey practices law from the backseat of his Lincoln, and gets the case of his life. With Ryan Phillippe and Marisa Tomei.
JANE EYRE

Another one of those homework assignments I never read. Great telling of a popular story with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender.
BATTLE: LOS ANGELES

Well I was worried those pesky aliens would win, but thanks to Staff Sargeant(Aaron Eckhart), we're ok. Great effects.
RED RIDING HOOD

Great updating of the story, with a werewolf in the mix, and a great cast with Julie Christie as Grandmother.
HALL PASS

The Farrelly Brothers do it again..funny movie with Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as buddies given a "Hall Pass" by their wives for a week.
UNKNOWN

Is the condition of Liam Neeson in this movie similar to last year's smash Taken, with slightly less fighting and killing. Really entertaining though.
CEDAR RAPIDS

Ed Helm is funny as an insurance agent going to the big city for the convention. John C Riley and Anne Heche are great too. Funny movie.

I AM NUMBER FOUR

Fun science fiction movie about a kid sent to earth with powers. Kind of like Smallville.

THE EAGLE

Standard 2nd century fare with warring factions tearing it up. The Romans are led by Channing Tatum.

OSCAR NOMINATED SHORT FILMS

Another 5 great 20 minute features..Na Wewe from Belgium is my pick for the Oscar.

JUST GO WITH IT

A little more meaty than your typical Adam Sandler features, and Jennifer Anniston does a great job.

BIUTIFUL

Javier Bardem is incredible in this story of a Barcelona street husler trying to tie up loose ends before he dies of cancer in a couple of months.
SANCTUM

Story about a deep cave/hole and the people that die in it..the IMAX 3-D was cool.

Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman star in this one about the life of a Canadian soap opera producer and his wives.
CASINO JACK

Kevin Spacey is great as super lobbyist Jack Abrahmoff.

THE MECHANIC

Jason Stathem in the Charles Bronson hitman role and Ben Foster as his apprentice out to avenge his father's death.

THE WAY BACK

Colin Farrell and his buddies escape from a Siberian prison in WWII into the frozen tundra...and walk 4000 miles to freedom. Good war movie.

A year in the lives of some old people, with emphasis on their screwed-up friends.

Somber look at the subject of grieiving, with Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart losing their son in an auto accident..Not too many laughs in this one. With Sandra Oh.

What a great movie, bassed on the true story of women Ford workers in the 60's and the strike they had to earn equal wages as the men. Sally Hawkins.
TRUE GRIT

Jeff Bridges reprises the John Wayne role-Coen Brothers direct-with Matt Damon.
LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS

Funny, yes-but also dealing with a serious subject-Parkinsons Disease. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway star.

BURLESQUE

Christina Aguilera comes to the big city and gets a job in a club run by a former dancer(Cher). Singing and dancing follows.

GULLIVERS TRAVELS

Jack Black does a nice job of putting a modern spin on the old story..with Jason Segel and Amanda Peet. In 3D.

LITTLE FOCKERS

I laughed at the first two movies..and I laughed at this one. With Jessica Alba and Laura Dern.

Great movie in IMAX 3D and the effects were worth it.

WALL STREET MONEY NEVER SLEEPS

Michael Douglas reprises his role of Gorden Gekko, and is joined by Shia Labeouf, Josh Brolin and Carey Mulligan. The story is updated to Wall Streeet's trouble a couple of years ago.

EASY A

Emma Stone in high school saying she lost her virginity and getting in all kinds of trouble. Great supporting cast-Stanley Tucci Patricia Clarkson-Thomas Haden Church-Lis Kudrow.

KINGS OF PASTRY

Doc about the competition in France every four years where a chosen few chefs are awarded the Meilleur Ouvrier de France(Best Craftsman in France) by French OPresident Sarkozy. Good movie.

Ben Affleck directs and stars in this story of a gang of robbers and love and Rebecca Hall as the hostage turned love interest.

Wow what a movie..The view from inside an Israeli tank rolling into Lebanon on the first day of the war in 1982.

This doc follows Joaquin Phoenix for a year as he decides to quit acting for a rap career.

FLIPPED

Two kid's love story with each scene shown first from his, then her perspective. Rob Riener directed.

TAKERS

Big cast including Matt Dillon and Paul Walker-it's another heist caper..lots of shooting, some dead bodies-and it's all very cool.

MACHETE

Robert Rodriguez' latest is a knife-wielding guy(Danny Trejo) against the bad guys (Robert DeNiro, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal)with a little Lindsay Lohan thrown in for good measure. Violent.

Documentary on the life of Pat Tillman, with an accounting of exactly what happened that day in Afghanistan.
GOING THE DISTANCE

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in another rom-com. Pleasant.

ANIMAL KINGDOM

Austrailian story of a small time crime family whose members are getting picked off one by one by the Armed Robbery squad of the Police. Violent.
THE AMERICAN

This one had a foreign film feel with George Clooney as an assasin whose gonna get rubbed out. He's holed up in a little Italian town and meets a nice prostitute.
WHAT IF

What a great movie with Kevin Sorbo and John Ratzenberger. An angel shows a high powered businessman what his life would have been like if he took the other path.
LOVE RANCH

A different movie for Helen Mirren..with Joe Pesci. The first legal brothel in Nevada.

WILD GRASS

One of the more obscure french movies I've seen..not sure what was happening here...but I liked it.

WINNEBAGO MAN

Great documentary about the angry RV guy(look it up on the internet) and what happened to him.

THE EXTRA MAN

Good to see Kevin Kline in a film(independent), and Paul Dano is great..story of a society guy and the kid he takes under his wing..John C> Reilly is in it, too.

GET LOW

Great little movie with Robert Duvall and Bill Murray as the old man who wants a funeral party..while he's still alive.

Reunion of testosterone boys..Sly-Arnold-Statham-Li-Lundgren-Couture-Austin-Crews-and Rourke.

Funny Will Farrell movie with Mark Wahlberg as cop partners bumbling their way through things.

DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS

Based on a 1998 French movie..Steve Carell and Paul Rudd have a field day with these characters..the perfect idiot and the exec on the rise. Funny.

RESTREPO

This doc follows a platoon for a year in the deadliest valley in Afganistan. Wow.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER

Oliver Stone's documentary is interesting-he travels to South America to interview the presidents and it's different than what we have been hearing in the media.
WINTER'S BONE

One of the best independents of the year-a story of a teenage girl taking care of her siblings and trying to keep the house after her father takes off. Life in the woods of Missouri.

SALT

Angelina Jolie is superwoman as agent Evelyn Salt and is she ours or the Russians.
COCO CHANEL AND IGOR STRAVINSKY

Fiction about an affair between these two famous people. We do get to see how she came up with Chanel No. 5.

INCEPTION

Wow-what a movie-it plays with your mind..and the entire cast is great!

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

Lesbian couple meet the sperm donor who gave them their kids. Madcap hilarity ensues-and it all turns out ok.
THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE

The second of the three novels is a great continuation with a few references to the first movie-and a lot of action as Lizbeth and Mikael are exposing a sex trafficking ring. Swedish w/subtitles.

HOLY ROLLERS

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are good together in this shoot em up spy movie. Lots of action.
JONAH HEX

Josh Brolin brings the comic book to life as he must stop a crazed ex soldier bent on destroying the world with a new weapon. With Megan Fox.

GROWN UPS

Adam Sandler and his former basketball teammates reuinte for the funeral of their coach and learn some life lessons. Funny.

MICMACS

French movie that ended up reminding me of the original Mission Impossible on TV.
THE A TEAM

No matter what movie your making-Liam Neeson always makes it more credible..no exception here. And Bradley Cooper does a fine job also-breathing new life into the old TV series. Frenetic pace-good.

Princess Ka'iulani
Q'orianka Kilcher as the Hawainn princess trying to save her island from being taken as an American territorial possession. Visually awesom and a great story.
ROBIN HOOD
Good story-great actors-and this is before he robs from the rich to give to the poor. Russell Crowe as the famed archer is fighting for England.
IRON MAN 2
I liked it-thought it was as good as the first movie and Robert Downey Jrs wisecracking was great. Could have used a little longer final fight scene, but overall another great entry in this series. Can't wait to see what they do next.

THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES
The Oscar winner for best foreign movie(Argentina)..this one has it all..a former policeman is trying to solve a murder from many years back.

THE LOSERS
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, and Zoe Zaldana star in this rockem-sockem flick, as members of a former CIA black ops team are out for revenge.
THE JONESES
The perfect family moves into an upscale neighborhood to show off their possessions, and everyone starts buying the same stuff. They are really a super sales team just doing their job. David Duchovny and Demi Moore.
CITY ISLAND
What a great flick with Andy Garcia starring and producing. Buddy of mine texted me after he saw it to say he thought it was "Movie of the Year."

KICK A##
Nicolas Cage is good..his daughter Chloe Moritz(Hit Girl) is fantastic and this movie is just plain fun. Spoof of super hero movies has Dave Lizewski(Kick A##) fighting for all that is right..Funny and violent.
TERRIBLY HAPPY
After getting in trouble, a policeman is sent to a small town to redeem himself. This Danish import was billed as "in the style of the Coen Brothers", and it delivers.
DATE NIGHT Tina Fey and Steve Carell are mistaken for another couple and madcap comedy ensues. Funny.
CLASH OF THE TITANS
Sam Worthington is great as Perseus, and it's his job to get rid of that pesky Cracken. Not a bad job by Ralph Finnes as Hades either. Special effects-awesome.
GREENBERG Nice little movie with Ben Stiller as a self absorbed 40 year old trying to figure out life.
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO
What a great murder mystery from Sweden, and yes the girl figures it all out with a nice little surprise at the end.

THE RED BARON
The story of Germany's famous World War I ace pilot..Baron Manfred Von Richthofen..good history lesson and I liked it.
HOT TUB TIME MACHINE Funny movie with a great cast starring John Cusack and a fun ending. Oh by the way, it's about a hot tub time machine.
A PROPHET
French movie about a young arab’s rise to the top of the mafia.  REPO MEN Futuristic sci-fi where Jude Law and Forest Whitaker come to rip out your artificial heart for lack of payment.  THE BOUNTY HUNTER Funny one with an ex-cop(Gerard Butler) after his bail-jumping ex-wife(Jennfier Aniston).  THE RUNAWAYS History lesson about Joan Jett(Kristen Stewart), Cherie Currie(Dakota Fanning), and the rest of the Runaways, an all girl rock group. GREEN ZONE
Matt Damon in a looking for WMDs in Iraq story that reminds me of the Bourne movies(with the Bourne director Paul Greengrass assisting) and good action.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
My second movie at the new Harkins IMAX(the largest one in town)and what a great telling of the story with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. The 3D was awesome.

BROOKLYN'S FINEST
Typical cop movie with RIchard Gere and Ethan Hawke. Ehhhh.

GHOST WRITER
Roman Polanski directs this thriller with Pierce Brosnan and Ewan MacGregor about the former British Prime Minister and his memoirs ghost writer. What a great movie.

COP OUT
Director and airline passenger ejectee Kevin Smith has fun with this one, starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as NYPD cops on the trail of a stolen baseball card. Funny.

SHUTTER ISLAND
Scorsese and DiCaprio team up again in this scary movie of a U.S. Marshall on the trail of an escaped murderer. But things ARE NOT as they seem.

ST. JOHN OF LAS VEGAS
Nice little movie with Steve Buscemi as an Insurance Fraud Investigator lured back to the city he has a bad history with-Las Vegas. With Sarah Silverman.

VALENTINE'S DAY
Geez there were tons of stars in this one about make ups and break ups on V Day. Oh, and a couple of great twists too.

THE WOLFMAN
Benicio Del Toro looks like Lon Chaney Jr from the original-good move there. This update was great with some goood blood (ie heads off everybody).

THE WHITE RIBBON
Austrian black n white flick set just before WWI and there is alot of strange doins in a small german village.

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE
John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers with the director of Taken in an explosive action movie. Good killing!

THE LAST STATION
The last year of Tolstoy's life and it's a great film for Helen Mirren. Also stars Christopher Plummer, Paul Giamatti and James McAvoy. Wonderful.

EDGE OF DARKNESS
Mel Gibson is back...with a vengeance. Nice take on the BBC Miniseries, with Mel on the trail of his daughter's killers. Some nice bloodshed.

EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES
Brendan Fraser as the dad trying to save his kids from dying and Harrison Ford as the scientists who can do it. Have you ever noticed that Harrison Ford is at his best when he's mad and gruff.

LEGION
Almost a horror movie(not quite) with Paul Bettany as the angel trying to save Earth from ending. With Dennis Quaid and Gladys, the zombie-like old lady with the powerful jaws.

THE LOVELY BONES
Peter Jackson directs this story of a girl in the in-between after being murdered. Gripping story.

THE BOOK OF ELI
Dark picture with Denzel Washington on a divine mission in post-apocalyptic times.

LEAP YEAR
Amy Adams and Matthew Goode star and it seems this is typical of movies coming out at the beginning of the year..but good. She is going to Ireland to propose on Leap Day(a Irish custom). Rom Com.

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
Heath Ledger's last movie and Terry Gilliam strikes again with another amazing cerebral movie. That should do it for ya..go see this one.

CRAZY HEART
Jeff Bridges is awesome in this one about a has been country star on the comeback. With Maggie Gyllenhaal, Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell.

BROKEN EMBRACES
The director Pedro Almodovar does it again with this story of a blind writer, formerly a great director, and the series of events that lead to his blindness.

A SINGLE MAN
Colin Firth in one of his best performances yet as a college professor in LA in the 60's, trying to get over the death of his lover.

IT'S COMPLICATED
Funny at times, but a great story too about mid-life and love. Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin star.

SHERLOCK HOLMES
Lots of action and great stars Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and Rachael McAdams. Looks like another franchise is born.

NINE
Really enjoyed this musical with Daniel Day Lewis and a bunch of great stars.

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MORGANS
Funny film featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant as an estranged couple put in the witness protection program.

THE YOUNG VICTORIA
The early years of the future Queen in a well done movie. Emily Blunt fills the bill.

AVATAR
Stunning movie in 3D(I saw it at the new Harkins IMAX)and a pretty good story too.

UP IN THE AIR
Topical movie about corporate firing with George Clooney. Oscar talk.

INVICTUS
Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon are great in this story of the South African Rugby Team in the 1995 World Cup.

ME AND ORSON WELLES
Zac Efron is cast as an actor hired by Orson Welles in his 1937 production of Julius Caesar. The guy who plays Welles(Christian McKay)looks and acts just like him.

THE MESSENGER
The soldiers who notify next of kin of casualties, and how they deal with it makes for a great movie and Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster should be mentioned for Oscars.
