The cable channel TLC has announced that it will be debuting a reality TV show this fall about five Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan, with the goal of showing what it's really like to be Muslim in America. TLC's press release for All-American Muslim says the show will offer a, quote, "intimate look at their customs and celebrations, as well as the misconceptions, conflicts and differences they face." The Week magazine reports that while some commentators think the idea is promising, thinking it could shown how much Muslims are like others Americans and increase tolerance, while others worry it could become trashy, in the vein of other ethnicity-based reality shows like Jersey Shore.
