A California woman has sworn off looking in a mirror for a year -- a period that will include her wedding -- in an effort to see if doing so could lead to greater self-acceptance and appreciation for her body, YouBeauty.com reports. Kjerstin Gruys, a PhD candidate and teaching fellow at the UCLA Department of Sociology, says she struggles with poor body image, and felt the constant pressure to look perfect was only being intensified by wedding planning. She hasn't given up all vanity, however, continuing to wear makeup during the year -- although not a lot -- which she practiced putting on without a mirror beforehand. Gruys is writing about her daily life during the year of going mirror-free on her blog, called Mirror, Mirror Off the Wall.  Check out her blog here.
