Two grown children in Illinois who filed a lawsuit against their mother in 2009 had their suit dismissed after the judge called their allegations "petty grievances." Garrity enforcing curfews, sending them insufficient college care packages and causing undue suffering when she haggled with them over homecoming dress budgets. The children were being represented by their father Steven Miner --who split from Garrity in 2005. The judge ruled, "At its worst, [Garrity's conduct] reflects behavior that is sometimes erratic, sometimes spiteful, sometimes less than generous or fully sensitive to the material and emotional
needs of her children. But by no means does the nature and quality of this conduct fall outside 'all possible bounds of decency.'" (CNN)

Beginning in 2011, City voters in City of Phoenix elections no longer are required to vote at a specified polling place in the voter’s precinct. Traditional polling places have been replaced with voting centers. Any voter can use any one of the 26 voting centers to cast a ballot and the voting centers will be open for voting for THREE DAYS. For voting convenience, in addition to Election Day, the voting centers will be open on the Saturday and Monday prior to Election Day.

Voters may also use voting centers to obtain replacement early ballots or to drop off voted early ballots.

Voting Hours: For voting convenience, voting centers will be open on the following three days.

• Saturday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Monday, August 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Tuesday, August 30 (Election Day), 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Forbes magazine released its annual list of the world's 100 most powerful women yesterday (August 24th). The top 10 women on the list are:

Some of the notable movement seen on the list includes:

• Michelle Obama fell from 1st place last year to 8th place.
• Entertainers Lady Gaga (11th place), Oprah Winfrey (14th place) and Beyonce (18th place) are all in the top 20, but have fallen in ranking, since all were in the top 10 last year, including Oprah at Number 3.
• Former CBS Evening News host Katie Couric was in 22nd place in 2010, but isn't on the top 100 list at all this year because she gave up the anchor job.
• Jill Abramson, the new executive editor of the New York Times, debuts on the list this year in 12th place.
• Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who's running for president, is also debuting on the list, in 22nd place.
• Sarah Palin, who was 16th last year, fell to 34th place.

Yeah!  A Top Ten that doesn't include us!  A recent survey from OKCupid named Portland, Oregon the nation's sluttiest city when it comes to casual sex, with Seattle, Washington, Denver, Colorado and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania also among the country's top ten most promiscuous cities. The results were generated by tallying the users who list "Casual Sex" among the types of relationships they seek on the site.

Ross Mathews -- best known as a Tonight Show correspondent and Chelsea Lately regular -- has signed a talk-show pilot development deal at E!. The deal means that the 31-year-old will develop a talk show with Chelsea Handler's production company, Borderline Amazing Productions, and will continue to be one of E!'s featured on-air talents. He said, "We've been doing stuff together for a couple years now, but this really makes it official. And so what this is going to do is sort of firm up our relationship and say I'm going to be one of E!'s people now. When people see my face, I want them to say, 'Oh my gosh, that's Ross from E!' and 'I know where to tune in to see him.'"

A California woman has sworn off looking in a mirror for a year -- a period that will include her wedding -- in an effort to see if doing so could lead to greater self-acceptance and appreciation for her body, YouBeauty.com reports. Kjerstin Gruys, a PhD candidate and teaching fellow at the UCLA Department of Sociology, says she struggles with poor body image, and felt the constant pressure to look perfect was only being intensified by wedding planning. She hasn't given up all vanity, however, continuing to wear makeup during the year -- although not a lot -- which she practiced putting on without a mirror beforehand. 20% OF WOMEN TALK TO DOGS MORE THAN PARTNERS: One in five women spend more time talking to their pets than their partners. They also take time off work to look after their sickly dogs and even leave the radio or television on for them. A survey of 2,000 female dog owners revealed 18 percent chat to their dogs more frequently than their husbands or boyfriends. Meanwhile, 42 percent have taken time off work to nurse sick animals and 34 percent leave the radio or television set on to keep their pets company. (Daily Mail)

Last weekend in Sacramento, California doctors at Sutter Memorial Hospital delivered 45 newborn babies in a period of 48 hours -- during a full moon. Even though there's no scientific data to back up the theory that the moon has any effect on childbirth, one doctor at Sutter says that hospitals always tends to be busy when there's a full moon. Dr. Matthew Guile said, "I think if you talk to anybody on the front lines of the hospital, emergency room doctors, labor and delivery, etc. it's always like that on the full moon, everyone for some reason is really busy."
