The Arizona Museum for Youth

18th Annual Sedona International Film Festival

 

Official selections for the 18th Annual Sedona International Film Festival run the gamut from Oscar winners to Oscar hopefuls, full-length feature premiers, shorts, and documentaries. 

The 145 films will be screened at four locations throughout Sedona from Feb. 18-26 including the new Mary D. Fisher Theater, which will be inaugurated during the Festival and serve as the official screening venue for Sedona International Film Festival films throughout the year.

Legendary director Peter Bogdanovich will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.  His Oscar-winning film, The Last Picture Show, will open the Festival at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Sedona Performing Arts Center at Sedona Red Rock High School, 995 Upper Red Rock Loop.  

The full schedule of films starts Sunday, Feb. 19 on three screens at Harkins Sedona 6, 2081 W. Highway 89A; at a special theater at the Sedona Rouge, 2250 W. State Route 89A, and at the Mary D. Fisher Theater, 2030 W. State Route 89A at the Festival headquarters.

Phoenix Film Festival 2012

 

The Phoenix Film Festival is proud to announce the 12th Annual Edition of its event.  The Festival is planning its biggest and best festival ever. 

It was named one of the 25 coolest Film Festivals by MovieMaker Magagazine and is a program of the 501c(3) non-profit Phoenix Film Foundation.  The event was started in 2000 by independent filmmakers as an opportunity to showcase independent filmmaking and it has quickly become Arizona's largest film festival.

The festival annually screens over 150 films, holds parties and provides filmmaking seminars to capacity audiences.  Over 22,000 attendees enjoy the 8 day festival.

The festival takes place all in one convenient location and is held on 7 screens at the Harkins Scottsdale 101.  All parties and workshops are held right on site, so nothing is mised.

Stray Cat is thrilled to announce that it will be teaming up with the new incoming class of MFA Actors at ASU for a kinetic and visceral production of this wicked expressionistic fantasy.  Set in a time-bending, darkly comic world between heaven and hell, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot uses flashbacks to an imagined childhood, and a courtroom in Purgatory with lawyers who reexamine the plight and fate of the New Testament’s most infamous and unexplained sinner.

An extraordinary play… not since Angels in America have I seen a play so unafraid to acknowledge the power of the spirit…The Guardian.

Opened in 1929, the Heard Museum was the first cultural attraction in the Phoenix and remains one of the most well known to this day.  The Spanish mission-style museum celebrates American Indian cultures and arts.  It has become known for its wonderful festivals, exhibits and  cultural events as well as its gift shop featuring authentic Indian arts and crafts.

Musical Instrument Museum

The Musical Instrument Museum contains more than 12,000 instruments from countries all over the world.  This global instrument collection can be viewed being played through the museum's state-of-the-art multimedia displays. Some of the instruments are even available to be played by museum visitors in the downstairs gallery or you can take in one of their frequent concerts in the theatre.

VNSA's Amazing Annual Used Book Sale

Join book lovers and bargain hunters at the Annual VNSA Used Book Sale on February 11 & 12, 2012 at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.

Sale proceeds will benefit Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation and Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County. More than 500,000 books and related items, organized into 27 categories for easy shopping will be offered at the sale. Items include harbound books, paperbacks, text-books, videos, CDs, computer manuals, maps, puzzles, and other book-related items.

Since 1987, VNSA has contributed over $5,000,000 to local charities. Admission to the sale is free. Payment for purchases may be made with cash, checks with ID, Visa, MasterCard and debit cards.

First Fridays Art Walk

First Friday in Phoenix

 

Open studios tours are a good way to experience art and artists. Every first Friday evening of each month you can take a free self-guided tour of downtown Phoenix galleries, studios and art spaces. It's called First Friday.

 First Friday is organized by Artlink, a nonprofit organization "...dedicated to bringing together artists, the public, and businesses for a greater understanding, appreciation, and promotion of the arts and the development of a strong and vital downtown Phoenix arts community."
